From Rejection to Double Scholarship: Vivian’s Story of God’s Faithfulness
“At the end of 2022, I attended the overnight service and wrote down all my New Year’s resolutions, hoping they would come to pass. But 2023 was one of the hardest years of my life. Because of work changes and life happening, my relationship with God slowly took a back seat – until it was almost non-existent.
That year was filled with frustration, anxiety, and sadness. Nothing I had planned worked out. By June, I had mentally given up. I even remember asking God if I was His least favourite child, because everyone else seemed to be moving forward while absolutely nothing was happening for me.
By the end of the year, I realised I had spent so much time complaining and being bitter, and I didn’t want to live like that anymore. I joined a nearby cell group. When the year ended, I didn’t even write any resolutions. My only prayer for 2024 was simple: “God, please give me peace.”

In 2024, God slowly began to restore my heart. Through cell, prayer, and reading the Bible daily with a prayer partner, my faith started growing again. Even when a university scholarship I really wanted didn’t come through, I noticed something different – I still had peace. The rejection didn’t send me into the spiral it would have the previous year. God was changing me from the inside out.
At the All Night Sing at the end of the year, I found the courage to trust God again and placed my new year in His hands.
At the start of 2025, while listening to the song “I Have Witnessed It” by Passion, I felt strongly that by the end of the year I would testify about God’s goodness. I asked Pastor Daniel to pray with me. I had many prayer requests – some of them didn’t even make sense together – but I believed God could do the impossible. After praying, he told me that God had already aligned people throughout the year to help me, and that I just needed to remain obedient.
A few weeks later, I was shortlisted for interviews for both the Equity & Merit Scholarship and the Chevening Scholarship – something that had never happened in the three years I had been applying. I was in shock. Preparing for the interviews was intense, but every time anxiety crept in, I would refocus on God. Lunchtime prayer services at Downtown carried me through that season.
Eventually, I opened the scholarship email I had been so afraid to read – and it was positive. Then in June, I received the news that I had also been awarded the Chevening Scholarship.
I went from years of rejection and heartbreak to having to choose between two prestigious scholarships in the UK. Only God could do that.
Looking back, I also realised something else: throughout the entire year, God placed people along my journey to help me – just like He had promised. Even on the day I was leaving for the airport, feeling nervous and emotional about moving to a new country, another scholar arrived at the same moment and her presence instantly calmed me down.
My testimony is simple: God reminded me that I am loved. He answered both the small prayers – like giving me peace – and the big ones like the scholarships.
God is faithful and constant when we choose to trust Him.”
If you’re in a season where nothing seems to be working and you feel forgotten by God, don’t give up. Stay close to Him, stay in community, and keep trusting. Your testimony might be closer than you think.
