ICE BREAKER:
What would change about you if you got a lot more money today?

REFLECTION:
Ecclesiastes 10:19 states that, “…money is the answer for everything.” But it can also create awkward situations in life and especially in marriages. While prayer is made for more money, there is need to know that money has latent power to change the character of couples and shake their marriage. Money can accelerate godly progress or amplify unwanted pain especially where there is disunity, suspicion, secrecy, control and conflict.

One prayer of wisdom states: ‘Give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the bread that is my portion. Otherwise, I may have too much and deny You, saying, ‘Who is the LORD?’ Or I may become poor and steal, profaning the name of my God.” (Proverbs 30:8-9) This was an expression of conviction of the author.

The Bible has more to say about money, wealth, success and prosperity.

In our discussion today, let’s take time to examine our convictions about money and align our practices to Biblical teachings.

TEXT:
Deuteronomy 8:16-18
He gave you manna to eat in the wilderness, something your ancestors had never known, to humble and test you so that in the end it might go well with you. You may say to yourself, “My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.” But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.

DISCUSSION

1. What convictions about money often cause tension among married couples?
2. What Biblical principles would be helpful for couples to increase their wealth?
3. ACTION: Set a date as a couple to have a ‘MONEY Conversation’ and agree on what transparency and accountability looks like for you.
