Watoto believes that Africa’s greatest resource is women waiting to be empowered. The harsh reality is that many of these women have been left to bear the brunt of war, poverty, and disease. But when a woman is enabled to reach her full potential, she has the power to raise her family and transform her community and nation at large. Through Watoto Neighbourhood, we’re empowering the most vulnerable women and girls to reach their full potential. Since inception in 2008, we have reached over 6,500 women in Uganda and South Sudan, providing them with skills for a sustainable future. 

Women’s economic empowerment is a prerequisite for sustainable development, pro-poor growth, and the achievement of all the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs, 2010). Gender equality and empowered women are catalysts for multiplying development efforts. Investments in gender equality yield the highest returns of all development investments (OECD, 2010). 

This year, we plan to support 1,000 mothers and boost their businesses with the goal of raising UGX 350,000,000, and each mother will receive a business starter kit worth UGX 350,000. So take on the challenge of impacting lives while enjoying the good game of golf!
