REFLECTIONS FROM ‘THE LOVE DARE BIBLE STUDY: Love Dares in action (pg 27)
February is popularly known as the month of love. While it comes with all sorts of unwarranted hype, the children of God need to model true love to the rest of the world. Reading Proverbs 27:5 “Better an open reprimand than concealed love”. (Christian Standard Bible) we understand that one of the ways we show love to others involves what we say and do with them in public spaces.  Our love for each other needs to overflow as a witness to the true love of God at work in our hearts and lives as Christian couples. 

In our quest to give and receive love as Godly couples, let us consider the following excerpts from the Love Dare Bible study:

“Love does not parade her talent in front of his inability, Love does not remember all his past exploits and victories to make her feel lucky that he even sticks around. Love does not complain about his wife, Love does not rejoice in seductive images on TV.  Love believes in her husband and wants the best for him. Love never gives up”. 

And from the overflow of the fullness in our private lives, let us then practice.  Song of Songs 3:2-4 “I will arise now and go about the city, through the streets and squares.  I will seek the one I love. So I sought him but did not find him. I had just passed them (watchmen and others) when I found the one I love. I held him and would not let go until I had brought him to my mother’s house, to the chamber of the one who conceived me”. 

TEXT: ROMANS 12:7-11
“If it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead,  do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully. Love must be sincere.  Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord”.

DISCUSSION

1. Identify the gifts, attitudes, and actions listed in this text. And share how they would impact the quality of love in marriage.
2. Take turns to share some ‘Love Dares’ that you have enjoyed in your marriage.
3. Pray for wisdom to find practical ways of spurring one another to grow in expressing love as couples.
