MARRIEDS CELL GUIDE: MAY 2024

TOPIC: LIVING AS A MAN AFTER GODS OWN HEART

ICE BREAKER: Has your ‘Bestman’ been of a positive impact in your marriage?

REFLECTION: David is referred to as ‘a man after God’s own heart’. ACTS 13:22 (ESV) … He wrote psalms of worship and laid a great foundation for building the house of God. But his family life story had issues of concern. His relationship with Bathsheba involved breaking many moral boundaries and giving in to lustful passions. This affected him, his family and the nation. However, we also see David turning to God in true repentance and passionately seeking after His forgiveness and His wisdom. God heard his cry and kept His promises to David. As couples, we want to be a people that acknowledge our imperfections and, like David, wholeheartedly turn our hearts to God for the grace to get out of the mess and lead our families into the blessing of God. And when we have found grace, we help others find Jesus in their marriages.

TEXTS: PSALMS 51:10-14 (NIV)

10 Create in me a pure heart, O God (you who are God my Savior), and renew a steadfast Spirit within me. …. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me. (Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed), then I will teach transgressors your ways …

DISCUSSION:

  1. What does it mean to be a man after God’s own heart?
  2. Taking lessons from David’s life, how can we live free from such pitfalls in life?
  3. Take time to pray with every husband the prayer David prayed in Psalm 51:10-14.
