TOPIC: DEEPENING INTIMACY IN MARRIAGE

ICE BREAKER: What is it about your spouse that you love to see in your children?

REFLECTION: Are you familiar with the ‘Couple Bubble’?  The ‘Couple Bubble’ is a secure and loving environment where a husband and wife put their marriage first before any other human relationship.  It is a safe and secure space where the couple demonstrates to one another, that ‘we come first, we put ‘our well-being, our self-esteem, our feelings, our distress’ etc before anything else in our relationship.  Couples basically long for a marriage where they feel safe to love and be loved, accept and be accepted, protect and be protected, care and be cared for as they advocate for one another and become secure allies against all hostile marital forces. Every couple has the capacity to create their ‘Bubble’.

Proverbs 3:3-4 “Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.

Song of Solomon 4:7-8 “You are altogether beautiful, my darling; there is no flaw in you. Come with me from Lebanon, my bride, come with me from Lebanon.  Descend from the crest of Amana, from the top of Senir, the summit of Hermon, from the lions’ dens and the mountain haunts of leopards.

1. From the reflection and verses above, what roadblocks do you know that could hinder oneness in marriage?
2. What can struggling couples do to regain, nurture and promote a secure environment in their marriage?
3. How can couples keep the warmth of intimate connection in their marriage?
